Whether you’re interested in social media, audience measurement, search technology, news gathering or entrepreneurship, the 2009 Online News Association Conference & Awards Banquet features a lineup of industry leaders poised to explore the latest developments at the intersection of journalism and technology.

Currently, speakers include:

  • Krishna Bharat, Principal Scientist, Google. The creator of Google News, Bharat received the 2003 World Technology Award for Media & Journalism and the 2003 Webby Award in the news category. Panel: Outwit the Algorithms

  • Paul Berry, Chief Technology Officer, The Huffington Post. Berry, who joined HuffingtonPost.com in 2006, has leveraged metrics and employed new technology to dramatically build the site’s audience. Panel: Your Audience, Your Advantage

  • J.D Lasica, Founder, Socialmedia.biz. An advisor to media companies on the new media landscape since 1996, Lasica has founded several social media sites including his current venture, Socialmedia.biz, which offers social media strategic services and workshops to Fortune 500 companies and mid-size businesses worldwide. Panel: Social Media Mania
  • Hoa Loranger, Director, Nielsen Norman Group. A specialist in usability research, Loranger works with clients to successfully implement user-centered design strategies leading to improved sales and return on investment. Panel: Yep, Text Still Matters

  • Om Malik, Founder, GigaOm. Before launching his own publishing venture, GigaOm, Malik was a senior writer for Business 2.0 magazine covering telecom and broadband stories. He is currently a venture Partner at True Ventures and No. 16 on the Forbes Web 25 list. Panel: From Journalist to Entrepreneur

  • Aron Pilhofer, Editor, Interactive News Technologies, The New York Times. Pilhofer oversees a team of journalists/developers who build dynamic, data-driven applications to enhance The Times’ reporting online. Panels: It’s Data-Hunting Season, Design Solutions from News Experts and Dynamic Interactives for Newsrooms: A Django Workshop with IRE (pre-conference workshop).

More speakers will be announced and added to the ONA09 Schedule in the coming weeks.

And there’s more:

  • ONA09 offers six Pre-Conference Workshops on Thursday, Oct. 1, that provide expert, hands-on multimedia training and delve into new concepts in technology and digital thinking. Registration is separate from the general sessions.
  • The ONA09 Career Summit & Job Fair offers job seekers advice on how to parlay journalism skills into new jobs or careers and find out which digital skills are must-haves. Attendees meet one-on-one with recruiters and career coaches will provide resume critiques and professional guidance.

To register for the ONA09 general sessions, Pre-Conference Workshops or Career Summit & Job Fair, visit ONAConference.org/register. Registration for an ONA09 general pass is $399 for ONA members, $699 for non-members until Aug. 28. On Aug. 29, rates increase to $599 and $899. Day passes are also available.
