{"id":1769,"date":"2009-10-03T17:58:36","date_gmt":"2009-10-03T21:58:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/conference.journalists.org\/2009conference\/?p=1769"},"modified":"2009-10-03T17:58:36","modified_gmt":"2009-10-03T21:58:36","slug":"women-in-online-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ona09.journalists.org\/2009\/10\/03\/women-in-online-media\/","title":{"rendered":"Women in online media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In her keynote speech this morning, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogher.com\/\">Blogher.com<\/a> co-founder and CEO <a href=\"http:\/\/surfette.typepad.com\/about.html\">Lisa Stone<\/a> discussed the history and mission of her \u201ccommunity for women who blog.\u201d\u00a0 Every month, Stone said, Blogher reaches more than 15 million people.<\/p>\n<p>Stone stressed the importance of applying traditional journalistic values to Blogher.\u00a0 Everyone who blogs in the network, which includes both women and men, is required to sign an agreement to abide by certain rules.\u00a0 \u201cThe standards we use on our network are the standard tenets of good journalism,\u201d she said.\u00a0 \u201cWhat we know, what we\u2019ve learned as journalists, has translated beautifully into this space,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Stone addressed the rapidly changing ways women are consuming media.\u00a0 She emphasized the wide range of issues women blog about today, including technology, social issues, politics, pregnancy, travel and personal finance.\u00a0 In this video, conference attendees address the issue of the female perspective in online media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/6884564\">Women in online media<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/user2159705\">Online News Association<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Abby Selden is a senior at Belmont University in Nashville.
